My name is Kourtney! A little bit about me - I’m a Believer, an HBCU alum (Aggie Pride!), a tech professional, and a girl from the South. I began cooking at the age of 4. My great-grandmother, whom our family affectionately called Big Mama, started teaching me how to make pancakes, which sparked my passion for food.

Brown Avenue is where it all began. It’s where I lived for the first 3/4 years of my life and where I truly experienced and learned the value of family. Out of the many lessons I gained, I learned how a home-cooked meal could bring people together, and how a delicious dessert can gather people for a night of laughter.

Big Mama was indeed my first best friend. If you’ve ever seen the movie Soul Food (my all-time favorite movie), my Big Mama reminds me of "Big Mama" in the movie. She had this amazing ability to bring our family together over fried chicken, cornbread, and sweet potato pie. But, just like in the movie, when she passed, our family had difficulty connecting without the person who bonded us all.

Over the years, my Grandma and Mommy continued to teach me how to cook. Around high school, my mom trusted me to make dinner when she was coming home late or for holidays. After college, I moved to California, and during COVID I had a lot of time to explore the kitchen. I started trying new recipes and crafting my own, and I fell in love with the art of cooking and baking all over again. This birthed Brown Avenue Kitchen, formerly Blossoms and Butter.

Join me on this adventure as I follow God’s vision for Brown Avenue Kitchen. There’s so much in store!
